Grand Continental Hotel at Kuah, Langkawi Island

Grand Continental Hotel (N6 19.666 E99 50.233) is one of the Three (3) stars hotel which located at Jalan Pantai Matsirat of Kuah, Pulau Langkawi. It's just in between the Langkawi Parade Shopping Complex and Sky Eagle Inn Hotel. That will be convenience for us to buy some daily necessity and beers at the shopping complex. :)

We booked the hotel through the AsiaWebDirect.com, and the rates was MYR150.00 per day, the total was about MYR330.00 for 2 days included booking fees and tax (c/w breakfast for 2 person). I was impressed with service provided by AsiaWebDirect.com !

The Reception and the Hotel Lobby

The staffs at the Check-in counter were very friendly and we had done the check-in less than 10 minutes! Great!
Before I show the photos of the room, let's look around the environment of the hotel...

The Restaurant area. This was the place we had our breakfast.

The swimming pool was just situated beside the restaurant...well, it was just enough space for you to cool down from the hot weather of Langkawi Island.

The kids said 'Peace' to the lens...:)

When we walked through the corridor along the rooms, I saw a special dustbin just sit beside one of the room...this was unaccepted mentality by the guests! You have to learn to take care your own rubbish.

The corridor in the hotel

The room was spacious enough for us (2 adults & 1 child). But during the online booking, I did stated I need a queen bed rather than 2 single bed! Seems like the hotel staff was Not seriously take care on our reservation.

The room of Grand Continental Hotel, Langkawi

Every rooms are provided with the 21" Colour Television and Hair Dryer.

The attached bathroom

And the bathtub, but the Stains.....

The view from the window, the lower building is the Langkawi Parade Shopping Complex.

The other view from the window...

Overall, we were OK for the hotel. Even the stains look uncomfortable, but we were not here for the bathtub. The breakfast provided was average like a normal fried rice, fried noodle and nasi lemak.

From the cost we paid, I rated : 3.8/5.

Well, I will wanna try other hotel in our next visit to Langkawi Island. It's because there are Too many choices in the island...

After everything settle, we drove to Cenang Beach (Pantai) and started to Explore the island! Haha!

My Trip to Langkawi Island on September 2010

We spent our holiday at Langkawi Island (Pulau in Malay) on September this year (2010) during the Hari Raya holidays. That was about 1 hour 30 minutes drive from Butterworth to Kuala Kedah Jetty (N6 06.388 E100 17.397). The journey was smooth and relax on the NSE...

We parked our car at the Gated Parking Area (N6 06.380 E100 17.412) in front of the Jetty building which cost MYR15.00 per day (the area will be total lock after midnight). It's looks safe to me...There were many peoples around the Jetty area offer cheaper parking rate at other area, but that seems like no confidence for me!

The Ferry fees was MYR23.00 for adult and MYR17.00 for children for one way with 'seat number'. The journey will take 1 hour and 30 minutes from Kuala Kedah to Kuah, Langkawi Island. The interval is one hour, that's mean there will be ferries from Kuala Kedah to Kuah Langkawi on every hour from 7am - 7pm daily. There are a few counters at the Jetty, but only one was open when we were there...

Passengers from Langkawi Island

LADA One Ferry from Kuala Kedah to Kuah, Langkawi.

Too bad, we were not on this LADA One ferry, our ticket stamped 'Coral Island 3' which was parked at the other side of the Jetty.

Coral Island 3 Ferry at Kuala Kedah Jetty

The Coral Island 3 ferry be able to take almost 200 passengers on board.

Passengers on board

After about 180 minutes, I saw the land! I don't really like the feeling when sailing in the middle of the sea! Haha!

The Beautiful islands and the granite formation of the islands

Once we reached the Jetty of Kuah - Langkawi Island, I noticed this beautiful scene on my right...The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club. Look at the clear Blue Sky and the Emerald Ocean!

The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club

The Kuah's Jetty is in the Jetty Point Shopping Complex where you can shop for Souvenirs, but we just gave a pass on it! Once you exit the complex, there was another small building in front of it, where all the Travel Booths located. I was searching around for the good bargain car rental along the travel booths...

The Travel Booths of Jetty Point, Langkawi Island.

At last we rented the RED Proton Iswara from one of the booths named Auntie Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd for 2 days - MYR130.00 after bargained. (Advise to rent the car at the Jetty Point Langkawi for better bargain, Not from the Kuala Kedah Jetty or even online). The car rental from them all are provided with Legal Permit (photo below).
Please rent your car with Caution! There were many peoples who came and approached us for car rental but MOST of them are illegal! You will get into Troubles when facing a Police Road Block within the island, and we don't want to waste our time too! Just pay a little bit more to avoid all the unnecessary problem!

Our RED Israrri!

The permit which normally stick on top of the road tax (windscreen)

Advise : Please be extra careful while looking for car rental at Langkawi Island. The rental cars without the permit will cost about 20% cheaper but you might end up with troubles and wasting your precious time! I cannot understand why the the Authority does Not take any action on it!

So once we got our transport, we visited the Eagle Square of Langkawi Island just located beside the Jetty Point Complex (walking distance).

The Giant Eagle Statue of Eagle Square, Langkawi Island

YES! We had landed on the Island Of Eagle - Langkawi!!

And we started our Adventure after check-in to the Grand Continental Hotel at Kuah, Pulau Langkawi.

Firefly Valley Leisure Park at Kota Tinggi, Johor. (Part 2)

Continue from Part 1...

At the end on the right of the Park, there was a timber bridge where you can enjoy the fish along the both side of the bridge. This was where the Fish Farm located.

The Fish Farm of Firefly Valley Leisure Park

The Fish Farm was full of Koi

Beside the Koi, there were many type of fishes around but I do not know their names...you can check it out yourself. :)
Walked along the bridge, you will notice the 'Water Wheel' which was in still position and not rotate, I just request at the counter area and the 'friendly' boss - Mr Tan turn the generator On immediately for pumping the water to the wheel and it started to rotate...Thanks Mr Tan. :)

The Water Wheel before it starts to rotate...

The water splash out after the generator was turn on...the water move the big wheel!

And this was what we got after it turns, shooting at slow shuttle - 2 sec without tripod.

There were many ducks and geese swimming around the area happily! Well, I note they do have meeting within themselves...Haha!

Their meeting was about to start...

The path will lead you back to the dining area where I saw some of the groups had started their BBQ dinner preparation...So we have to get ourselves ready for the our dinner too!

We had 12 persons and 2 children that night, so we choose the Dinner Package (minimum 10 pax) instead of BBQ dinner...

Our table...

Just opposite the Jetty, I'm just wondering why nobody row that boat?!

Before the dinner serve, we had a few cans of Carlsberg Beer (MYR7.00 per can) here...

The dinner served Sharp on 7pm, this was follow our request. The dishes were all in the package and we didn't chose the dishes as we like...(but I believe they be able to customize the dishes)

Soup

Chicken

Steam Fish

Vegetables

Bean curd - Tou-fu

Prawns

Omelette - Complimentary from the boss - Mr Tan

We were really enjoy the dinner and everyone were satisfied with the dishes served by the Park. The Cook was the elder son of the Boss.
We spent almost 1 hour 30 minutes to enjoy the dinner in this beautiful environment! When almost 9pm, they informed us that the Fireflies had wake up and it's time to enjoy the view at the riverbank!

During watching the Fireflies, Mr Tan elder's son was explaining everything about the fireflies! You can ask any questions and he will answer it from A-Z! Great!
There are about 30 types of Firefly in Malaysia, those which we see along the riverbank are in the smaller size, where else you can find more bigger size Firefly in the jungle. The life span of Firefly is merely about 3 weeks and they are staying at the root of one type of the Mangroves Tree (fireflies of river type). The fireflies will stop blinking around 10pm everyday, because they need to recharge! Haha!
The Best time to view the Fireflies is after rain! If it rain in the afternoon, that will be the Best day to visit the park!
These are knowledge that I learned from him...

I cannot get a good photos (even with tripod) that night due to my poor skills...:(
Below is the only photos you can see some fireflies blinking...too bad there was no background light to enhance the photo...

Fireflies along the riverbank. The photo taken about 9pm

The park is manage by Tan's family and some workers who stay and guided the park during night time. It is Well maintained and Clean. I Love the environment very much! According to Mr Tan (the owner), the visitors can setup their tents and camping inside the park when the electric supply from TNB come in (currently they are using generator during night time) probably end of 2010. And he will built some simple chalets in the park to let the visitors who wanna put a night in the park. I believe that will be Great for nature lover! And we will definitely visit again!

If you are visiting the Park on the night time just to watch the Fireflies, the entrance fee is MYR10.00 (without dinner). And if you like to have the dinner package, they will charge MYR15.90 for adults and MYR10.90 for children (age below 6). (6pm-10pm)

They have few packages for the dinner :-
1)  Steamboat (min. 6 pax)
2)  Buffet dinner (min. 10 pax)
3)  BBQ dinner (min. 6 pax)
4)  Dinner package (min. 10 pax adults)

You can chose any of it depends on the numbers of the group. You have to make a reservation of the dinner 2 days in advance before visit the Park. The telephone number for booking : 012-7833723/012-7896224 (Mrs Tan).

We hanged around the park until almost 10pm, till we finished all the beers and force us to say bye-bye to the Fireflies! :)

Nice and calm environment, this was where I had my beers! :)
