Media FAM 3 days 2 nights trip 2012 at Cherating, Pahang.

I was invited to the Media FAM Trip 2012 at Cherating with my family. The Legend Resort Cherating (N4.10279 E103.38346) was the sponsor for the 3 days 2 nights accommodation, meals and tours.
Me and my family were really enjoyed this trip and the meals provided by the Resort. But the 4 hours+ journey from Johor Bahru to Cherating was really tired! :)

Let me list down our itinerary for the 3 days 2 nights Cherating trip...

6.  Tong Juan Stuff Crab at Chukai, Terengganu. (my own itinerary)
7.  Back to Johor Bahru.

My family was really enjoyed the trip organized and sponsored by The Legend Resort Cherating! I like the way the arranged and also the free and easy intinerary, and definitely the 'pearl white' private beach of The Legend Resort. This was also our First time we experienced the 'Turtle lay eggs' in very close distance! I didn't expect Cherating can be so fun especially the scenery and the surrounding, well...there was NO flood at all along our trip from Cherating to Terengganu! Surprised!

Despite some media reported about the rain and flood during Monsoon season from June to December, we never 'taste' the rain at all in our 3 days 2 nights trip! Yeah...as Mr Praba said :"Sometimes the place is Dry during the Monsson season and the wind definitely won't blow away the Resort which constructed by concrete!" Haha!

We learned a lot from this Educational trip and we will try our Best to visit Cherating every year between June - December because it's the Turtle season!

*  The individual blog post for every visit will publish soon...

Mei Zhong Yuen Confectionery Shop at Jonker Street, Malacca

Mei Zhong Yuen Confectionery Shop (N2.197598 E102.24559) is located along Jonker Street of Malacca. Visited the shop after our lunch from Hainan Association just 2 doors away...

For me, this is one of the hidden gem in Jonker street!
They sell many type of biscuits which are delicious and where they got the name as "Melaka Famous Traditional Homemade Biscuit". Especially if you looking for the Taiwan Famous Sun biscuit (太阳饼), you can get it here! I never come across any others shop in Malaysia selling it!

Mei Zhong Yuen Confectionery Shop

There were full variety of biscuits display in front of the shop...I was attracted by it...

Biscuits from Mei Zhong Yuen

If all of the above are not suitable to you, please step inside...there are many and many different biscuits within the shop...sure you can find what are you looking for...:)

Mr Low (owner of the shop) generously let us try their Premium Product - Lotus biscuit and we were allow to take back all the Sun biscuits that he prepared from the Hainan Association...Thanks!

Lotus Biscuits from Mei Zhong Yuen

Then Mr Low brought out the Sun Biscuits just from the oven!

Mei Zhong Yuen Premium product - Sun Biscuit (太阳饼)

Single red dot are Durian flavor and double red dot are coffee flavor. The Sun Biscuit was really melt in my mouth! I believe the quality is equally good compare with the Taiwan Sun Biscuit.

Our group fully filled up the shop...everyone was busy tasting the biscuits and many of them grab few packs of their Premium products of Mei Zhong Yuen.

Big bags...small bags...everywhere...

Another selling point of the confectionery shop is...they prepare and bake the biscuit on the spot! Well, if you have free time, you can just stand and watch the making of the Lotus biscuit...

One of the staff preparing the dual flavor Lotus Biscuits

If you haven't try out the biscuit from Mei Zhong Yuen, don't wait! Just drop by the shop which is next to Hainan Association along Jonker Street and taste the Famous biscuits of the town!

After this session, we decided not to follow the group to Farmosa photography session. This was our last stop for the 'A Date With Bloggers' event, because we planed to have the Melaka Coconut Shake at Klebang! :)

Thanks everyone who participated in the event! See You!

Authentic Hainanese Dishes at Hainan Association, Malacca (Melaka)

After visiting the Cheng Ho Cultural Museum, our next destination was Hainan Association (N2.197499 E102.245662) along Jonker Street, Malacca. There will be many Hainanese dishes presented by the Friendly Hainan women from the association.
The session was arranged in the air-conditional hall on the first floor of the building. The dishes were nicely arranged on the table when we stepped in...

That was the session we can probe our questions to the ladies for the foods knowledge. I was busy taking photos of everythings on the table...
Let's start from the Hainanese snacks...

Sesame Glutinous Rice Balls with peanut (煎堆)

I like the sesame rice ball very much during my childhood, but didn't expect it was one of the Hainanese snacks...

Bua Ta Art 蒸压粑

This snacks caught my attention once I stepped close to the table, it had a unique taste and special! Nice! My first time tasting it.

Traditional Hainanese snack : Yi Bua

"This snack food is steamed glutinous rice cake with sesame, peanuts and grated/ shredded coconut meat as lts stuffing." The Hainanese present to their friend or relatives on certain occasion like : Switf to new house, wedding and new born baby full moon...

I like the coconut fragrance....

ou bua kia 鸡屎藤粑籽汤

A Hainanese medical dessert, strong ginger taste. Not bad with the weird Chinese name...:)

Hainanese Steamed chicken (文昌鸡)

This type of chicken is very common nowadays whenever you order chicken rice at everywhere between Malaysia and Singapore. For Hainanese, chicken will be the main course for every event or occassion. My another childhood favorite, even now...

The dish I forgot the name of it...stir freid vege with prawns...

Chicken rice ball

Of course you will see the Malacca chicken rice ball which is Very Famous in whole Malaysia. The history I read was originated from the 'Tan Hoe Kee' family - Muar, many decades ago...yet to find out the true...some said, all the shops selling Hainanese Chicken rice ball in Malacca now are the grandson or relatives from the Tan family...

When the Hainanese cuisine presented on the table, the bloggers were busy snapping photos...

A Date With The Bloggers

Beside the Hainanese dishes, in conjunction with the Nyonya Cuisine from Ms Lucy Wee (Lady boss of Anak Nyonya Restaurant) also presented on the next table...

Nyonya Assam prawns

Sambal petai sotong (squids)

Curry Ayam Buah Keluak (my favorite)

Nyonya Ayam Ponteh (my favorite)

Bendi Stim Belacan (Steamed ladyfinger with sambal belacan)

The common scene during the day...photos taking

60's Fruit Tea

The drinks of that day were sponsored by Jonker Gallery. They had few variety with different concoction with apple and others. The Refreshing Fruit Tea did the nice effect to cool us down during the hot and humid day...too bad it's Only available around Jonker Street area. Hopefully I can see the colorful bottle at Johor Bahru one day...

Once we finished photography the dishes on table, the making of chicken rice ball session had started...these were the ladies who made the Delicious Hainanese foods on that day! Kudos!

The Hainanese women at the Association.

They were patiently show us the step-by-step on getting the rice ball and shaped it...

The making of chicken rice ball by Hainanese grannies...

After the rice ball been shaped nicely...

Follow by the hands-on session for everyone to try on it! Many shaped came out that day, not all are round! Haha! We had a lot of fun within the session!

All of us trying to shaped the rice ball...even the General Manager of Perfect Food also join the crowd...:)

Right : before shape. Left : after shaped.

We took a short rest after the chicken rice ball session and continued by the making of Suncake from Mei Zhong Yuen Confactionary. The Suncake is a famous snack from Taiwan, and I had taste it on my trip to Taiwan 2007.

Cookies from Mei Zhong Yuen

Pineapple tart from Mei Zhong Yuen

The owner of Mei Zhong Yuen - Mr Low was a friendly and humble guy. Before he show us the making of Suncake, we had a good interaction with him...

The Bloggers...

Mr Low and his assistant started the demostration slowly and provide with a detail explaination from A to Z during the session...

The making of Sun biscuits

Mr Low marking the Sun biscuits with a Red dot which represent durian filling...

The Sun biscuit does not bake on the spot, Mr Low need to carried all of them back to his confectionary shop which we going to visit after the lunch...

It was our honor to enjoy the Delicious Hainanese and Nyonya dishes with the Chief Minister of Melaka - Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam. In his short speech, he shared some information about Melaka. He was A friendly guy.

The Chief Minister of Melaka - Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam

Everyone in the room enjoyed their lunch very much! Great experience for me to taste so many dishes at once! And also an eye opener for me especially on the Hainanese snacks that I never see before...

The left over on the table after an hour...

I wonder why we left one chicken rice ball on the plate?! And who should responsible to finish it? Haha!
